How to create the perfect CV

Rosa Dos Santos • Jul 13, 2021

Your CV is an essential part of your job seeking armoury, so it’s vital to get it right. It’s tempting to spend hours and hours deliberating over every word and to include the smallest detail from the mists of time. Here at Exact, however, we recommend that you follow a tried and trusted formula and keep it short but sweet. The last thing a potential employer is going to want to do is to trawl through page after page of information about you, especially if yours is one of many they’ve received for the role. The ideal CV will give sufficient detail to pique their interest but only just enough to want them to meet you to learn more.

In addition, the best way to differentiate yourself from the other candidates is to ensure that your CV is well presented and immaculately proofread, and that it contains at least one piece of experience or an interest that is out of the ordinary. This may be a professional qualification or accomplishment, or an unusual hobby, possibly that you pursue to a high level. Whatever it is, presenting something a little bit different will show your potential employer that there’s something about you.

For Rosa dos Santos, owner of Exact Sourcing, your CV is your shop window, so it’s important to take it seriously and keep it updated. ‘As a recruitment agency in Cambridge and Newmarket, we are dealing with high-quality candidates all the time,’ comments Rosa. ‘One of the first thing we do is to review their CV and give constructive feedback. Whatever the economic climate, you need everything working in your favour if you’re trying to secure an interview, and your CV can be your biggest asset. Our mantra is to keep it simple, check all the details and try to stand out.’

Exact Sourcing is a recruitment agency in Cambridge and Newmarket, and we also serve Ely, Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Royston and Sawston. If you’re looking for a new position and would like some tailored assistance, why not contact us for an initial conversation?

I've been in interview processes where I was left feeling awful and to be honest with you, it really knocked my confidence. I knew I could do the job but I just wasn't the best at the interview process itself, especially when it was in front of a panel. If you want to get the best out of someone within a short space of time, it's about pulling back the layers of that person to really understand their gifts and their gaps and how that could fit into the team and culture you have created or are creating.
